Frontispiece Portraits
During Joyce’s life, 4 iconic photographic portraits were taken of him by legendary photographers of the time: Josef Breitenbach, Man Ray, Camille Ruf, and Berenice Abbott. We will be reproducing them in the Patron Editions— one in each of the four volumes.
Half-Cloth
The Half-Cloth edition features a cloth spine and corners, letterpress printed boards, and a letterpress spine label. It is printed on warm white heavy archival stock. Leather Design Inspiration
Leather Bound Editions are inspired by the characters from the novel along with Joyce’s own “schema” for Ulysses. Joyce created 2 versions of the schema in 1920 and 1921 to help his friends Carlo Linati and Valery Larbaud understand the structure of the novel. The schemas assign various symbols, colors, subjects, times, and more to each episode of Ulysses, which roughly correspond with episodes from Homer’s Odyssey.

PROTEUS Edition
The PROTEUS Half-Leather Edition is bound in Teal Moroccan goatskin and handmade paste paper boards inspired by Stephen’s musings in Episode 3 – PROTEUS as he gazes over the waves of Sandymount Strand Beach. Each volume has a unique paste paper pattern, handcrafted by our bindery makers. It is printed on warm white heavy archival stock, the top edge of the book is gilt, and each copy has hand-sewn headbands. The endpaper features our letterpress Joyce Centennial pattern. NAUSICAA Edition
The NAUSICAA Deluxe Half-Leather Edition is bound in pink Moroccan goatskin leather and handmade paste paper boards, inspired by the most infamous episode of Ulysses: Episode 13 – NAUSICAA. It is printed on white heavy archival stock, the top edge of the book is gilt, and each copy has hand-sewn headbands. Each set is signed and numbered by the publisher in the final volume. This edition is expected to ship December 2022 and is limited to no more than 50 sets.
DEDALUS Edition
The Full-Leather DEDALUS edition is bound in full Teal Moroccan leather and is printed on blue heavy archival stock. The design is inspired by the original 1922 Shakespeare and Company Edition of Ulysses, with genuine gold tooling on the cover. The top edge is gilt and the book has hand-sewn headbands and handmade paste paper endpapers. Each set is signed and numbered by the publisher in the final volume. MOLLY Edition
The MOLLY edition, named for the iconic Molly Bloom, is bound in full limp vellum, a historic binding style popular in the 16th Century and revived by many of the great bookmakers of the early 1900’s. It is a flexible binding tied at the fore edge by Midnight Blue grosgrain tapes that lace through the cover. The top edge is gilt and the edition is printed on white heavy archival stock. Each set is signed and numbered by the publisher in the final volume. This edition is expected to ship December 2022 and is limited to no more than 40 sets.
LESTRYGONIANS Edition
The LESTRYGONIANS Edition is bound in speckled Full Calf, inspired by the bloody, carnivorous lunchtime crowd Leopold Bloom witnesses in Episode 8 – LESTRYGONIANS. It is printed on 100% cotton heavy archival stock, the top edge of the book is gilt, and each copy has hand-sewn headbands and hand-marbled endpapers. The frontispiece portraits are printed as photogravures. Each set is signed and numbered by the publisher in the final volume. This edition is expected to ship December 2022 and is limited to no more than 30 sets.
BLOOMSDAY Edition
The BLOOMSDAY is the ultimate Centennial Edition of Ulysses. Named after Leopold Bloom, the four volume set is bound in full Moroccan leather and printed on 100% cotton heavy archival stock. Each volume is bound in a different leather color—Dublin Green, Purple, Yellow, and Scarlet—and set with genuine precious gems surrounded by gold tooled vignettes. In this edition, the 4 frontispiece portraits of James Joyce are handprinted photogravures. The top edge is gilt, the books have hand-sewn headbands, and hand-marbled endpapers. This Edition will be housed in FOUR individual clamshell boxes.
